Every issue of Extra Time Magazine ends up here. On paper, under ink, in someone’s hands. This is how it gets there.

Long before a sheet meets the press, an issue is a series of conversations. Calls across time zones. Interviews that run long. Stories found in places the scoreboard never looks. Every page you’re about to see started like this.

Then the stories take shape. Spreads are built, broken and rebuilt. Type is set. Photos are cropped, then un-cropped. Every issue introduces a new language, and every language asks the layout to make room.

Before we print at scale, we print one. A test copy of every issue. We check the color against the screen. The weight of the paper. How the pages turn. How it sits in two hands. A magazine is read with the eyes, but it’s held first. If it doesn’t feel right, it doesn’t run.

Then the press runs. Sheet after sheet. Ink laid down in layers until every spread matches the one we signed off on. The conversations from months ago, now in color.

Between 100 and 150 pages an issue. Pages become sections. Sections become stacks. For the first time, the issue has weight.

From issue 8 onwards, we implemented a Swiss binding technique. The cover is fixed only at the back, which leaves the spine exposed and lets the pages fall open flat.

The last step is the one you notice first. Our signature foil, stamped into every cover. It catches the light on a shop shelf. It catches your thumb when you pick it up.

Independent means every step is a choice. The stories. The paper. The binding. The shine. We could make it faster. We could make it cheaper. We’d rather make it right.
